Probably because it's quicker and more fun than bothering to post anything. Oh well...

[LJ2ME] I am such a geek
Oh such exploits, in the space of one weekend I have managed to set up my media software to listen to my phone as a Bluetooth remote, connected to the net via said phone and gprs, and downloaded mobile blogging software to it from which I am now posting in bed. At this rate I may never have to leave my room again!

Wow, tonight is a bit of a bumper night in utter computing stupidity and ignorance in chronological order:

  • Lady comes in with a file to email off her flash disk (10 points for it not being a stiffy). The file however turns out to be a link (Clearly entitled "Shortcut to .lnk") dragged from her desktop onto the disk. The link was unfortunately unable to traverse the net and retrieve her folder located in "My Documents" on her home P.C. This may have been somewhat more forgivable had the folder not explicitly contained the word "Shortcut to" which should give some pause for thought, but this is yet another example of the extreme danger of Microsoft's ever increasing drive towards dumbing down users by abstracting away the actual underlying principles by which there computers work.

  • Hmm... I think I will print this one page Word document. .... Oh nothing happened, let me click print again . Oh strange the first two times didn't seem to work, maybe this time will . (repeat four more times before I shout at him to stop). Now fine, granted the world would greatly benefit from a "Print Done" dialog, adorned with a single OK button because we all know how End Users love to be reassured that everything is OK. But this is not simply a case of ignorance, the point is that upon not finding a printed page magically materialising out of the ether next to the keyboard (yes the printer is in fact located at the main counter behind you) the users immediate response was to repeat an apparently failed action 6 times instead of think for a second to figure out where prints actually come out and then check if it worked.

  • Customer: "My Hotmail logon is in a foreign language." Me: "No it's just really small" (change font size). The point is not that she was ignorant of the ability to change font size, after all she did have glasses. The point is that upon being unable to read the text (which was in fact quite noticeably tiny) her immediate response is that it's in a foreign language? Why she didn't specify which one...

Why the freaking hell won't these damn people piss off so I can go home and collapse just long enough to be able to revive myself tomorrow morning in order to deal with them all over again... Oh wait I know, because they don't have FUCKING WATCHES!!! But that's another story altogether.

I'll wax philosophical tomorrow when I can think straight.

Okay, so right now I am unable to lean back on a nice comefy wall and stare into the distance, because some chick is working very diligently at giving her boyfriend a hickey while leaning against the counter. Things like this should really count as inhumane work conditions or something. I mean here I am trying to mind my own business and get home so I can sleep... alone. And I have to consciously avoid staring at the rather nausiating site of some girl sucking her boyfriends neck. Yes, to a certain degree I am just a bit jealous that I don't have somebody to suck my neck, but really I don't have that much of a problem with people doing it in public, it's just that I don't really want them doing it right freakin' next to me where I have to work.

Anyway, other than that life is pretty wear-inducing atm. I am gonna close up and go home soon and crash big time and wake up in a few days.

Hmm, I really don't know how I would make it through a Wednesday shift without my earphones and excessively long extension cable. The shop is dead, well except for the World of Warcfaft players and a guy on his laptop. But I am making significant dents into my mp3 collection carried on a rewritable cd and oozing through the five metres of extension tucked in my pocket and the plugged into the earphones which feed up under my shirt and into my ears. This way if a customer walks in I just pop one or both out and into my conveniently positioned shirt pocket. Plus thanks to the extension I can walk around still attached to the P.C. It works brilliantly.

Anyway I am listening to Janes Addiction and I can't for the life of me figure out what song it is of there's that I already know. At first I thought it might be New Age Girl, but that was Deadeye Dick, then for a moment I thought 100% Jesus but that was Daniella's Daze. And now I have gone to there official website and gone through all there albums and none of the names ring a bell. So I am waiting for something familiar to play and then I'll know.

Wow what a waste of time, all just in order to avoid the studying I should be doing in this free time... yeah I guess I should do that, after all I did haul a pair of big hardcover books all the way here in a backpack which leans them in the perfect angle to cut into my back.

Okay so more useless crap later then, when I don't have something far more important things to do, okay well that's not entirely true otherwise I would never ever get a chance to put anything up... ;)

Thought for the day: Suddenly I like Janes Addiction.
